How to test for PCOS
I had never heard of the DUTCH test before this year. I assumed most information I needed regarding my hormone health could be found with the results of a blood test. What was funny, was that my hormones seemed just fine when my blood tests came back. YES, you heard correctly. That’s when the DUTCH test was introduced to me as the best way to get accurate readings of your hormones.
So what is it? There are several different test kits, but the one I used was the DUTCH COMPLETE™. I did this under my doctor’s supervision. The kit was sent to me, and I was able to do the sample collections in my own home at my leisure. You do have to time it to line up with certain days in your cycle, and you drink fairly little water the day(s) of the test, but other than that it was pretty seamless.
After filling out a questionnaire, you collect your urine 4-5 times (letting it dry afterwards) and send the package back into Precision Analytics (the maker). They then send a report within a week or so to your health care provider. The results show your levels for a number of hormones (cortisol, melatonin, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) and whether they’re within a normal range or not.
THIS TEST CHANGED EVERYTHING. It was no longer a mystery to me what was going on. I encourage you to seek out this test if you have any questions about your hormone health.
